What Does Impaction Mean

Posted on 7/18/2022 by Dr. John Abajian
What Does Impaction MeanWhen referring to a tooth, you may have come across the phrase "impacted," and you might be curious about what it implies. When discussing orthodontics or dental care, the word "impacted" refers to a tooth that either has not come in ("flared up") at the predicted time or that is unable to come in because there is not enough space for it or because it may be coming in the wrong direction or position.

If there is not enough room in your mouth for your wisdom teeth, there is a risk that they may become impacted. There is a disorder known as tooth impaction in which the third match of molars either emerges partially or does not develop.

Impaction Can Be Fixed

Brackets and braces are two examples of possible implantation aids. Another option is the extraction of baby or permanent teeth that may obstruct the canines. These procedures provide the best results when carried out on younger respondents.
