Common Teeth Brushing Mistakes

Common Teeth Brushing MistakesSo you're brushing your teeth twice a day like you're supposed to, but are you doing it right? Unfortunately, many people make common mistakes that can lead to dental problems down the line. In this blog post, we'll cover some of the most common teeth brushing mistakes and how to avoid them.

Choosing a Toothbrush With Hard Bristles

One of the most common teeth brushing mistakes is using a toothbrush with stiff bristles. While it may seem like this type of brush will better clean your teeth, it can cause damage. Stiff bristles can wear down your enamel and lead to cavities and other dental problems.

Not Brushing for Long Enough

Another mistake that people often make is not brushing for long enough. The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends brushing for two minutes at least twice a day. If you're not hitting that mark, you're likely not getting all the plaque and bacteria off your teeth.

Brushing Too Hard

This one goes hand-in-hand with using a toothbrush with hard bristles. If you brush too hard, you can damage your enamel and cause other dental problems. The best way to avoid this is to use a soft-bristled brush and to be gentle while you're brushing. So choose a good toothbrush with soft bristles, and ensure you're not brushing too hard.

Not Brushing Your Tongue

Your tongue is home to a lot of bacteria, so it's important to brush it when you brush your teeth. Many people forget to do this, but it's an essential part of keeping your mouth healthy. The tongue attracts a lot of bacteria, and without it being properly cleaned, it can lead to bad breath and other dental problems.

Not Flossing

Flossing is an essential part of oral hygiene, but many people skip it. Flossing helps remove plaque and bacteria from areas your toothbrush can't reach. The ADA recommends flossing at least once a day. In addition, proper flossing techniques should always be practiced, even when pressed for time.

If you want your smile to look better every day, please avoid these common teeth brushing mistakes. All it takes is a little bit of knowledge and effort to have the best oral hygiene possible.
